Assessment Overview
In line with approach to assessments, we at ISTV believe there should be little testing for primary school students. However, we are aware the need for assessments for learning, due to current international schooling landscape and to ensure our students seamlessly transition to secondary education successfully.
Types of Assessments
Assessments of learning are typically administered at the end of a unit or grading period and evaluate a student’s understanding by comparing his or her achievement against a class, district, or nationwide benchmark or standards
Assessments for learning, measures a student’s comprehension and understanding of a skill or lesson during the learning and teaching process. This provides educators with ongoing feedback and allows them to:
- Identify at-risk students early
- Adjust instruction accordingly and promptly
- Re-evaluate student’s progress
At ISTV we have both assessment of learning, and, frequent assessment for learning, through summative and formative assessment approaches. In years 1, 2 and 3, ISTV will predominantly focus of conceptual teaching and learning and predominantly assess formatively. In years 4 and above, we will introduce and conduct summative, termly assessments, and continue with assessing for learning, through formative and summative assessment methods.
