Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Portugal, founded and chaired in Portugal by H.A.R. The Duke of Bragança, is an international programme of non-formal education, personal and social development through voluntary and non-competitive activities, aimed at all young people aged 14 to 25, which encourages them to develop as active, participative citizens, making a positive contribution to society and preparing them with life experiences to make a difference to themselves, their communities and the world, as well as being the only national and international programme that recognises young people for what they do.
By taking part in a community service and learning to be of service to others, young people are encouraged to support their neighbours; by practising a sport, they acquire physical development and sporting habits; through the talent section, they discover new talents in themselves or simply gain professional experience, so necessary these days; up to the adventure section, considered a test of survival, carried out in groups and where qualities of leadership, responsibility and maturity are highlighted, through the three existing levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
To this end, students are asked to volunteer one hour a week (they can do this at EITV by helping in the kitchen, gardening, supporting the nursery teachers/assistants or even supporting the younger students who attend the study room), one hour of physical activity a week (those who are already involved in clubs, be it football, tennis, basketball, gym, etc., just need to ask their coaches/trainers for recognition) and one hour of talent a week (practising dance, singing or any type of musical instrument is considered talent as long as it is accompanied by a teacher).
The Award is a complement to academic education and the benefits for young people include recognition by universities and employers, among many others. It is currently considered one of the best investments in young people’s training, as it adds value to their CVs.
We would like to inform you that the registration fee for the Prize for the 2023/2024 academic year, approved for EITV, is 75.00 € (Seventy-five euros) per participant.
Best Regards,
EITV, January 9th, 2024
